What does Exterior Waterproofing Entail?

The Best Way to Waterproof your basement is from the Outside. We start by excavating around the exterior of the house. We then power wash the dirt, etc. - off the wall. This allows for a complete and thorough inspection for cracks or damage and allows for proper adhesion of other products. Then we apply a coat of tar followed by glue to adhere a rubber membrane, which is applied from ground level to the footer and over to the footers edge. We then apply a continuous roll of Dimple Board on the foundation to allow water to rapidly drain to the footing. We dig down next to the footing approximately 16" and lay about 4" of gravel. We then grade the gravel towards the outlet of the system and role in 4" Corrugated/Perforated Pipe. On top of the pipe we lay another 20" of Clear 3/4" gravel to allow for drainage. This is topped with Filter Fabric to slow the saturation of dirt into the new gravel. We then top off the trench with the remaining soil ensuring a proper slope of 1" per foot for the first 6' away from the house. This is not always the most cost effective way though. Depending on Landscaping, Decking, etc. around your house. But it's definitely the best way.
